Anxious Beer Riders at the start of our Plan B Bikes & Beers ride.

Our 2013 Bikes & Beers Series has been off to a great start this season! We’ve had two awesome rides so far, with another four planned all the way through September. Our first Bikes and Beers ride was in conjunction with CTBeertrail.net and City Steam Brewery in Hartford, CT.The ride began at Pedal Power in Vernon, CT. We opened our shop up a bit early for any last minute items and made our service department available for bicycle emergencies. About 60-80 riders were on hand for the mass roll-out down the Hop River Trail to the East Coast Greenway in Manchester. We’re fortunate to have some closely accessible trails that provide car-free environments for easy pedaling!

Mid-ride refreshment stop.

About half-way into the ride, the good folks from CTBeertrail.net manned a ‘refreshment-stop’, with frosty beverages generously donated by New England Brewing. After another easy 10mi through East Hartford and the bridge over the river, we found ourselves being treated to the hospitality, and food & drink specials at City Steam.

On Sunday, May 26th, the second of our Bikes & Beers rides took place, despite the gloomy forecast. The ride was again sponsored by CTBeerTrail.net and hosted by the good folks at Plan B Burger Bar in Simsbury, CT. We actually had two loops going out from this ride, a short 12mi and a long 20mi loop. With half of the ride on the road and the other half on the paved bike path, another 60-70 riders enjoyed the great routes with some pretty scenery. The gloomy clouds hung around through the start of the ride and after a brief sprinkle of passing rain clouds, the sun played hide-and-seek with us for the remainder of the ride.

Mid-ride beverage break.

Another mid-ride refreshment stop cropped up (can you see the pattern happening here?), with beverages provided by City Steam Brewery, and treated thirsty riders at the half-way point on the bike path. The return trip on the path made for smooth, incredibly easy pedaling. There was plenty of food and beer waiting for the hungry, thirsty masses upon our arrival at Plan B.

Packed house!

Plan B was kind enough to lay out an awesome buffet along with some great beer specials for all of our riders. In addition to great food, participants were also treated to the musical stylings of Frantic Blue. Everyone had a great time, and the sun finally decided to come out for just in time for us to grab a seat outside. We’d love it if you would join us for our next Bikes & Beers ride: Sunday, June 26th at The Cambridge House in Granby CT. Details can be found here. Thanks to CTBeertrail.net and Plan B’s facebook pages for the great photos!
